Teffradot

Teffradot – Rebecca Horrox (Wales / England)

Opera Walk

2015-17 | Free
Cwm Idwal, Snowdonia

Teffradot is a new opera telling a timeless myth set in Snowdonia. The opera is set in motion as you walk through the beautiful glacial valley of Cwm Idwal, at any time of your choosing, using just your smartphone or mp3 player and closed cup headphones.

Eight characters emerge from the landscape singing stories of other-worldly shape-shifters and immortals – the eternal and ephemeral beings of the Cwm. Carnivorous flowers channel the prophecy from the moraines. A golden eyed raven lingers on the lake shore. The mountain cuts its iconic ridge against the Welsh sky as, below, a young girl strokes a pine martin. She is the Teffradot – awaiting her next victim. Prince Idwal must search out this queen of deception.

Ancient and contemporary instruments are joined by eight voices as Horrox dramatically transforms traditional Welsh melodies, echoing the weather-scarred and shattered rock face of the mountain.
